The year is 1963, the Conservative Party is in office, and Harold Macmillan – the Prime Minister – is staying with his wife in a castle in the Scottish highlands.
Their holiday is cut short by the arrival of two men – one from Westminster, the other from MI5 – with news of a scandal that threatens to rock the government, and to damage our foreign policy.
This is, of course, the ‘Profumo affair’; a sensational story of call girls, wild sex parties, and possible malign Soviet interference. This is a world Macmillan knows nothing of, and his reaction to it reveals a great deal about his politics, and his personal life.
The topical masterpiece is not to be missed and can be seen on the main stage at Chads Theatre from the 7th – 14th March 2015 and directed by Derek Slater.
